A Short Account of My Visit to Puthuvype Lighthouse, Vypin
Puthuvype Lighthouse, with a legacy of over fourty years, offers an aesthetic view of the entire Vypin Island from a height of about 46m. From this high viewpoint, you get a bird's eye view of the puthuvype beach with its blue-green watered lagoons on one side and a host of coconut trees on the other. The best time to visit the lighthouse is after 2.30 PM, ironically when the sun shines bright. During this time of the day, the strong light of the sun offers a certain glitter to the waters of the lagoons as a result of which the waters look more blue than green. This is also the time when you can experience the winds blowing with a greater strength. Last time I visited the lighthouse with my friend, the winds blew so strong that I could feel the mobile quivering in my hands everytime I held it up for a selfie. People of any age can visit this lighthouse. For there is a lift service (for two to three persons at a time) available inside the lighthouse. So you needn't worry about climbing up the whole way. However, every visitor is only allowed to spend 30 minutes at the top of the lighthouse. There is a security counter at the ground floor where you should leave your bag. You are also not allowed to wear footwear inside. But you can carry your mobile camera upon paying Rs. 10 for photography. If you are a person who is in love with greenery, winds and the waters, this is a place you must visit.
